'Israel plotted recent attacks to mar Iran's ties with friendly states'

20 Feb 2012 - 9:39

Islam Times - Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says the recent explosions in Thailand, Georgia and India are attempts by the Israeli regime to mar Tehran’s ties with friendly states.

“These are plots they (Israelis) have hatched to damage our relations with friendly countries. This is also a method to create media hype against Iran,” Salehi said at a joint press conference with Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos Lopez.

On Tuesday, a man hurled a grenade at Thai police and a cab. The attacker was injured seriously in the blast. Bangkok police say they found Iranian identification documents on the maimed man.

Earlier in the day, a house rented by three men, who police say were Iranians, exploded when a cache of explosives reportedly went off by accident. Soon afterwards, there was a third blast on a nearby road, Thai police said.

The three explosions in Bangkok happened a day after bomb attacks targeted Israeli embassy staff in India and Georgia.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly accused Iran of orchestrating the attacks.

The Iranian foreign minister said the Israeli regime, which has legitimized state terrorism and proudly announces that it has assassinated Palestinian and Hezbollah officials, claims that Iran has committed such actions in countries with which it enjoys very good relations.

Referring to US allegations on Iran’s plot to assassinate Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir as unfounded and ridiculous, Salehi said the suspect was supposed to be tried last December but there were never any reports about the trial.

Last October, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel. The apparent publicity stunt, however, quickly disappeared from news networks and no major reports have since been published on the evidence and the outcome of the case.

Iran categorically denied the allegation as a 'ludicrous' claim based on the joint US-Israel scheme against Tehran.
