Convoy Update: Disabled Europeans join in solidarity

A number of disabled Europeans announced willingness to join “Hope For Gaza Convoy” heading to Gaza in May 2009.

The European Campaign to End Gaza Siege (ECEGS) received a number of requests from disabled people in various EU countries.

Convoy coordinator, Ramy Abdu, said that the participation of disabled people stresses the necessity of rescuing besieged Gazans by all means, especially Gazans themselves disabled as a result of the last Israeli war.

According to Abdu, the disabled Europeans will participate along with various activists and officials. He added that,” the convoy will include a number of micro-electrical vehicles for disabled Gazans. Additionally, hearing and medical kits will be included in the convoy. Around 10 ambulances will be given to Gaza hospitals.”

Bill, a disabled participant from London expressed his extreme happiness and excitement about taking part in the action.

“I’m very ready for this trip even though it will be tiring for me. This is a message for those disabled in Gaza. I want to show my support for them. This is also a message for the whole world to help the people of Gaza, especially sick and disabled people who are in bad need of medical care not available due to border crossing closures” Said Bill

At least 10 European MPs and a number of peace activists have already joined the convoy. According to ECEGS the convoy is more denotative than political signs for the people of Gaza. Donations for disabled Gazans through the convoy are symbolic compared to the amount of need.
