Turkish President Slams Saudi Crown Prince Over ’Moderate Islam’
Islam Times - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indirectly lashed out at Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman over his promotion of the so called moderate Islam saying the Saudi official is ignorant of Islam.
President Erdogan said on Friday that the notion that there was a “moderate” Islam and an “immoderate” one was invented by the West to “weaken” the faith.
“Countries that do not let women drive cannot talk about moderate Islam,” Erdogan
told an entrepreneurship certificate ceremony of the Islamic Cooperation Organization's Women's Advisory Council. "What kind of moderate Islam is this?"
He also criticized the term “moderate Islam” itself, saying it was actually introduced in order to weaken Islam, adding: "There can be no such understanding."
“The patent of ‘moderate Islam’ belongs to the West. There is no ‘moderate’ or ‘immoderate’ Islam; Islam is one. The aim of using such terms is to weaken Islam.”
“Perhaps the person voicing this concept thinks it belongs to him. No, it does not belong to you,” President Erdogan said, without referring to Mohammed bin Salman by name.
In a palace coup, Bin Salman was anointed in June by his father King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to be the first in line to the Saudi throne. Since then, he has engaged in a string of radical economic and social projects that he has attempted to portray as “reformist” in nature.
Last month bin Salman, has vowed to return the Wahhabi kingdom to what he claimed was “moderate Islam”
Wahhabism also referred to as Salafism is the official sect in Saudi Arabia and is also the ideology of all Takfiri terrorist groups in the world especially al-Qaeda ISIS, al-Nusra Front, Boko Haram, al-Shabaab, etc.
