'Gaddafi killing contradicts NTC goals'

Interview with Abdul Karim Bangura, Howard University professor in Washington D.C.

Islam Times - Libyan military officials have announced that there will be no post-mortem carried out on the body of slain Muammar Gaddafi despite growing concerns regarding his death.

Islam Times: However, the United Nations has called for a complete investigation into the circumstances of his death.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Abdul Karim Bangura, Professor of Howard University in Washington to further expound on the issue.

The following is an approximate transcription of the interview:

Press TV: The NTC says it will look into the death of Gaddafi, when in fact they originally said they wanted him to be captured alive and face criminal charges. Does this show the NTC has no control of armed groups in Libya?

Abdul Karim Bangura: I don't know if the NTC has no control of his armed groups in Libya would be the explanation. That could be only one theory. The other theory could be the NTC wanted him killed and he was killed.

Press TV: When Gaddafi was captured he was alive. Why was he killed? Isn't this in violation of his human rights? What the revolutionaries were claiming was that they were tired of the violation of human rights.

Abdul Karim Bangura: Well, basically this is the .... if you are fighting against a particular system and a particular way of doing a thing that you think is inhumane, is wrong why would you want to emulate the same behavior? The NTC has been absolutely contradictory from the ... so it is very difficult for those of us who are very concerned for the people in Libya to just accept such an explanation.

If according to the videos all of us have seen all around the world they had him captured and then all of a sudden in a split of a second he was executed live there was something of inherently contradictory to the whole purpose of what the liberation movement is supposed to be.

Press TV: Why does NATO want to continue its operations in Libya, do they feel the country is still unsafe
even with the death of Gaddafi?

Abdul Karim Bangura: Well, This is some of the things some of us have been saying that this conflict is going to be a protracted conflict. The mistake NATO and many Western observers have made is the assumption that Libya is Gaddafi. Libya is more than just Gaddafi. Yes, Gaddafi was a very significant force in the Libyan society, but he had instituted a system whereas even grass roots were engaged even women were engaged in the political process of Libya and many of these people have been marginalized and left out of the process.
