Olympic games coincide with Ramadan
There are about 3,500 Muslims taking part in the Olympics. This year’s games coincide with the Islamic month of Ramadan where Muslims are supposed to fast from dawn until dusk…this has left many athletes with a difficult dilemma.

For many athletes it has been a difficult decision. Muslim athletes from across the world have coordinated with their religious scholars to find a solution. Some have decided to fast. Others have made the difficult decision not to. Some will make the fasts up after the Olympics. Others will give meals to the poor for every day they’ve missed.

Whatever the decision, Muslim athletes are a prominent face of the Olympic Games. From majority Muslim and non-Muslim countries, they are proud to take part in the world’s biggest sporting event.
