Israeli settlers uproot some 140 Palestinian olive trees

11 Oct 2012 08:02

Islam Times - Nearly 140 Palestinian olive trees have been found uprooted in a village in the occupied West Bank just a week before the harvest season begins.

On Wednesday, Ramallah Mayor Faraj al-Naassaneh said Israeli settlers uprooted 138 olive trees in the northwestern part of al-Mughayyir village, which lies northeast of Ramallah.

This came only days after Palestinian officials blamed Israeli settlers for cutting down 70 other olive trees in the West Bank village of Qaryut.

Similar incidents have been reported in al-Khader, Fartaa, Kafr Qaddum, Beitillo al-Janieh, and Ras Karkar villages, where dozens of olive trees were cut down.

Settler violence against Palestinian farmers and their property sees a meaningful hike as the olive harvest season begins.

Earlier in the week, Palestinian Authority ministers held a meeting, condemning “the terrorist attacks by settlers against Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest."

Olive farming is a main source of income for Palestinian farmers in the West Bank.
