Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia warns against calls for reforms

24 Apr 2013 05:07

Islam Times - The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh said in a recent address to Saudis and to an extent all Muslims that calls for reforms were dangerous.

He explained that those who sought change were trying to impose a different reality onto people, which reality he warned is dangerous and perversive.

"Beware of calls for reforms ... Do not be deceived by pernicious propaganda which only intends to mislead you. Their beliefs are away from Islam. We must be wary of them," stressed the Grand Mufti while attending a ceremony in Riyadh.

Sheikh al-Azhar Ahmed al-Tayeb was attending.

He continued "They claim they want to reform society to make it more tolerant and accepting of others, while really they are trying to pervert Islam and make you stray from the honorable path. What they want is to impose a reality on our nation which is not ours."

The cleric urged all to stand strong in the face of perversion and "calls for reforms" by regrouping around their religious and state leaders.

He strongly warned against the danger of religious extremism.
