Growing opposition in Pakistan to U.S stance on Syria
As President Barrack Obama announced he would soon attack Syria using the excuse of an alleged use of chemical weapons against a civilian population in Syria - which allegations have to this day not be proven - several political factions in Pakistan have come out to protest the move and warn against severe repercussions across the region.

The government of Pakistan has already asked America to avoid any form of aggression against Syria. In a statement Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has urged for a political and peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.

Across Pakistan several anti-US demonstrations have been staged as anti US sentiment continue to grow amid the population as Washington is hardening its tone against the Syrian regime.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan condemned US President Barack Obama’s decision to consider carrying out a military strike against Syria.

Khan noted that the issue of whether or not the Syrian government used chemical weapons in the Damascus attacks needs to be investigated by UN inspectors and action taken on the basis of UN reports in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The PTI Chairman said, “the powerful cannot be allowed to break international norms with impunity”.

He added that Pakistan had also suffered at the hands of the US military-intensive approach in a direct reference to drones.

Washington has pinned a chemical attack which took place in Damascus on August 21st on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad even though evidences are pointing towards the so-called Free Syrian Army.

The Syrian government has always denied any involvement and has instead accused rebel forces for the attacks.

Jamaat e Islami Pakistan Chief Syed Munawar Hassan said on the matter, "we strongly oppose U.S. President Obama’s announcement to attack Syria."

He warned, "if America assault Syria, we will launch countrywide protests against such aggression."

Jamiat e Ulemaye Islam’s Chief Fazl ur Rehman stressed, "though we don’t have any special sympathy for Bashar al-Assad we are against American aggression on Syria."

He added, "Muslim leaders should stop America before it attacks Syria."

The Chief of the Shia Ulema Council, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi accused the US of using the use of chemical weapons as an excuse to invade and gain control over Syria in order to disrupt peace in the region.

He warned, "America has no intension to protect the Syrian people, it only wants to destabilize the Middle East.

Syed Hamid Ali Moosavi, chief of another religious group said, "Americans' move against Syria is a conspiracy to expand Israeli objectives in the region."

He questioned, "if the U.S. is really a champion for human rights, then why isit so lenient toward Israel when it is committing atrocities against the Palestinian people?"

The Central President of Imamia Student Organization (ISO), Athar Imran Tahir said, "a U.S. attack on Syria would affect the whole area."

In a statement he noted, "Americans want unrest in all Muslim countries in the region in order to protect Israel in the Middle East."

He added, "if the U.S. attacks Syria, if would create a serious threat against Israel."

Majlise Wahdate Muslimeen also condemned Obama’s announcement he would soon attack Syria.
