Islam Times , 25 Jul 2010 06:42

Islam Times- The Financial Times newspaper, in a topic on the beauty industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, revealed that the typical image of the woman in this conservative country implies as if she is not very much interested in beauty and make-up. This comes because she is veiled and covered from head to toe, only her eyes visible.

However, the figures say the contrary. The Saudi women spend so much on plastic surgeries, makeup, and hairdressing, and they are considered the highest spenders among the women of the Middle East.
The newspaper, quoting from the director of the research center in the field of cosmetics, said that the Saudi women, of different age groups, spend a lot of money on their appearance and hair salons in Saudi Arabia. Saudi women precede their counterparts in cities such as Paris, London and New York in terms of the means of propaganda. Online social networking websites such as Twitter and all the means of publicity and promotion are used.
The newspaper said that the Saudi women spent 2.4 billion dollars last year on cosmetics, and that Saudi Arabia is the highest country spending on cosmetics, even at the global level. Thus, this field is expected to grow by 11 percent this year.
Noura Saed, 25 years old, said to the author of the article that she has spent one thousand riyals (270 dollars) on her hair and make-up in order to attend her friend’s wedding party. She added that she spends 300 dinars weekly to buy cosmetics.
