16 Jul 2014 05:35

Islam Times - According to a thorough investigation conducted by rights activists and lawyers for the Center for Human Rights the military junta has allowed and encouraged the persecution of deposed President Mohammed Morsi’ supporters in Alexandria’s infamous prison – Burj Al Arab.

Security Forces launch a broad assault on Friday against prisoners, beating them up with baton and electric sticks.

Not content to have deposed, outlawed and unravelled the Muslim Brotherhood and all those who dared rise with Morsi against the return of a military-run dictatorship, the military junta has now turned to systematic brutalization and torture.

On Friday 231 detainees were attacked, 231 were injured – bruises, fractures, lacerations, concussions – Several inmates were left in a coma.

According to reports guards seized prisoners’ belongings, including their food, clothe and medicine. Sniffer dogs were used in the cells to further intimidate the prisoners and humiliate them.

Human rights activist Haitham Abu Khalil, director of the Center for Victims of Human Rights abuses denounced the death of Mahmoud Mohamed Saad Eddin , a 20-year-old inmate at Burj al Arab.

The young man was denied medical care for his hepatitis leading to a degradation of his condition and ultimately led to his death. Saad Eddin was one of the many young men arrested by the military junta in July 2013 for their support of deposed President Morsi.

Political prisoners, prisoners of conscience … hundreds sit now in prison enduring a harrowing fate.
