Islam Times - Hundreds of protesters have stages demonstrations for the third consecutive day this Thursday in the city of Parachinar, the central town of tribal Kurram region demanding the release of 23 tribal leaders and a local Imam after they were detained by the authorities some days ago.

Demonstrators demanded for the "Political administration of Kurram Agency to be replaced".

Member of the National Assembly (MNA), Sajid Hussain Toori has suggested the resolution of the issue through dialogue.

The Toori Bangash Supreme Council claimed that several people were injured after the authorities opened fire onto peaceful protesters two days ago. The council insisted that the attack was ordered by Riaz Masood, Political Administrator of Kurram tribal region.

The council also demanded Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Abbasi to take sou moto notice over the incident. Moreover it insisted the curfew order be lifted without further delay. The council complained that the curfew has paralysed life in the region.

Kurram agency is located near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, is one of the seven regions in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), governed by tribal laws.

An extremist insurgency led by the Pakistani Taliban has plagued the area. The region is also known for much sectarian-related violence.
