Paris admit to radicalization problem

17 Sep 2014 06:34

Islam Times - In a remark to Le Journal du Dimanche, French Interior Minister, Bernard Kaznov admitted that his country has a serious radicalization problem. The minister recognized that thousands if not more of wannabe terror radicals have travelled to join ISIL in Iraq and Syria.

He noted, “We already know that 350 terror volunteers are on the ground in Iraq, including 60 women. 180 have been positioned in Syria and about 170 have been spread out across the region. We also know that about 230 people intend to shortly travel, which make up a total of 930 people, not taking into account the 36 we know have been killed.”

France has adopted a law aimed at stopping suspected militants from travelling, including a ban on foreign travels of up to six months; the law also gives authorities powers to temporarily confiscate and invalidate their passports.

French lawmaker Sebastien Pietrasanta revealed earlier that around 100 militants who have fought in Syria and Iraq have returned to France.

Authorities fear that the French militants will use their combat skills against their countries upon returning home.

In a trend which has had European countries worry, more westerners have expressed a desire to side with and join ISIL as its militants spread like a cancer across the MENA region.
