Bahrain’ students face an uncertain future

24 Sep 2014 09:53

Islam Times - Even though schools have been opened for several weeks, the education system still suffers acutely from a shortage in teachers, which in the short and medium term will impact students negatively.

Unless the ratio students-teachers is restored to a manageable balance, students in Bahrain will be deprived from a good education.

The Education Ministry has already received thousands of letters of complaints from parents and schools, calling for the state to enrol more teachers. While the government continues to say that it is handing the situation, nothing on the ground has been done so far, pointing again to officials’ irresponsible attitude.

Bahrain’s education crisis was essentially brought about by the state’s aggressive immigration policy. As Al Khalifa has called on foreign nationals to come and settle in Bahrain in a bid to modify the sectarian make-up of the kingdom in its favour, Bahrainis have left to pick up the pieces.

As the state has been left unable to cope with the flood of new migrants, state amenities have been stretched ever thinner, clogging the system.
