Iran rejects GCC accusations of meddling

19 Oct 2014 05:43

Islam Times - Iranian Foreign Ministry has dismissed on Friday allegations of interfering in the affairs of Arab states leveled by the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

On October 15 Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf Abdullatif bin Rashid al-Zayani claimed that Iran was meddling in the affairs of Arab countries, jeopardizing security in the entire Middle East region.

An informed source at Iran's Foreign Ministry responded by saying the Islamic Republic's foreign policy is based on the principles of "moderation, political wisdom, good neighbor policy and non-interference in the affairs of neighboring countries," the Iran Project citing the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

The source also added that Iran has played a "constructive role" in preserving regional stability in the Middle East and has a "responsible" approach to the developments in the region.

Concerning the activities of so-called Takfiri Sunni radicals in the Middle East, the official urged "the countries that have provided a breeding ground for terrorist groups in the region through their political and financial support to make up for this mistake by showing their determination in the fight against terrorists," the Iran Project reported.

Saudi militants of Takfiri group are believed to stay behind the majority of the bomb attacks in Iraq during September and early October, according to the Saudi-based newspaper al-Hayat. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some Persian Gulf Arab states support Takfiri radicals.
