Turkey’s ex-president rejects remarks on successor

23 Nov 2014 13:34

Islam Times - Former Turkish President Abdullah Gul has rejected media reports that he has warned President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against the consequences of his policy on Iraq and Syria.

The report, carried by Kuwaiti news agency KUNA and a number of Turkish news outlets, had quoted Gul as saying Ankara is doomed to collapse if it continues its foreign policy vis-à-vis Iraq and Syria.

“I am sure that one day (God forbidden) the chickens of Erdogan’s past follies in Syria will come home to roost,” Gul was quoted as saying.

But Gul’s office has dismissed the report as totally baseless, saying he has never made such remarks against the current Turkish president.

Earlier, there were media reports that Gul and Erdogan had differences over the conflict in Syria.
