People in Baltimore protest police brutality, demand justice for Freddie Gray

Protesters marched from Gray's neighborhood in Sandtown-Winchester to the Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police Lodge on Wednesday, calling for conviction of officers involved in Gray’s death.
 
Gray, 25, was arrested on April 12 and died from spinal injuries suffered during his arrest a week later.
 
Earlier this month, Maryland State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said criminal charges were filed against six officers in the case.
 
The Baltimore Police Department Union, however, has denied that there was any wrongdoing by the officers.
 
"We are trying to be peaceful, but they keep playing with us like we idiots, like we don't know the law, we're not human beings, we don't deserve justice for Freddie," Juan Grant, Gray's brother-in-law, said during Wednesday’s protest.
 
The Baltimore Sun released a new video on Wednesday that showed the police officers putting the black man in leg shackles and handcuffs before placing him in a police van head first and on his stomach. The video was shot by a bystander.
 
There is a national debate over police violence in the United States amid a string of police killings of unarmed black people, creating the Black Lives Matter movement.
 
Police brutality as well as the racial profiling of minorities by US law enforcement agencies has become a major concern in the United States.
