Islam Times – The Republican Senator told a German weekly that the Muslim Brotherhood should ‘be specifically excluded from any transition government.’

Islam Times reports that John McCain answered a question presented by Spiegel about whether it took the Obama administration too long to find a clear position on Egypt. He said: “I don’t think that I can second-guess the president.”

John McCain said that “The process that I would like to see and I think a lot of other people would like to see is Hosni Mubarak stepping down and the army taking charge along with other democratic organizations within Egypt -- not the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Speigel asked this senator to compare the revolution of the Egyptian people to that of the Islamic Republic of Iran 32 years ago. He responded, not answer the question, but stating: “I am deeply, deeply concerned that this whole movement could be hijacked by radical Islamic extremists.”

After 18 days of protests against the Mubarak regime, Omar Suleiman, the vice president of Egypt, officially announced last night that Mubarak resigned from his post. He also announced that the army has been put in charge of the country.
