In a statement, shortly before an expected announcement by US President Donald Trump to declare the recognizing al-Quds (Jerusalem) as Israeli regime’s capital, Hamas Spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri added that such recognition “would harm Israel” and ultimately bring it “regret.”

On Tuesday, Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh warned the US that the potential relocation of the US embassy would cross “every red line.”

In a statement addressed to world Muslim leaders, Haniya said, “Moving the American embassy to al-Quds is a dangerous escalation and provides cover for the extremist government of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu to carry out its plan to Judaize the city of al-Quds.”

In a separate statement, Hamas called for Palestinians to “make Friday a day of rage against the occupation, rejecting moving the American embassy to al-Quds and recognizing it as the capital of the Zionist entity.”

The resistance movement called on young people in the West Bank to rise up and “respond to the American decision that targets our al-Quds in every possible way.”

However, Trump formally recognized al-Quds as Israeli regime’s “capital” in a speech on Wednesday.

“It is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” said Mr. Trump, speaking from the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House, saying that past approaches to the conflict, like delaying that recognition, had not moved the peace process forward.

“This is a long overdue step to advance the peace process and to work towards a lasting agreement,” he added.
