Islam Times - 82 Percent of Germans Back Merkel Saying US Unreliable

Islam Times - A new poll shows that over 80 percent of Germans believe the US is not a reliable partner for their country, echoing Angel Merkel's remarks who said "The times when we could rely entirely on one another have partly become a thing of the past,” in an apparent reference to the US.

The survey, commissioned by public service TV provider ZDF, found that 82 percent of Germans believe the US is not a reliable partner, with only 14 percent believing it is. The remaining four percent were unsure.

In June 2017, after President Donald Trump had announced during the recent G7 meeting in Sicily that he would pull the US out of Paris climate agreement, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, “The times when we could rely entirely on one another have partly become a thing of the past,” adding Europeans would have to take their fate into their own hands.

Rather, Europe needs to take its fate into its own hands. That’s the task for the future.”
