Islam Times - The Afghan President has called for a change in the US war strategy in Afghanistan as Taliban militants make a dramatic comeback in the war-ravaged country...
Islam Times: "The strategy of the war on terrorism must be reassessed," Afghan President Hamid Karzai was quoted as saying on Sunday in a statement released by his office.
According to Presstv report, Karzai made the remarks during a meeting with the president of the German parliament Norbert Lammert in Kabul.
"The experience over the past eight years showed that fighting [Taliban] in Afghan villages has been ineffective and is not achieving anything but killing civilians," the statement added.
According to UN estimates, some 1,300 civilians have been killed in the war-torn country so far this year -- with foreign troops responsible for a quarter of the deaths.
The issue of civilian casualties has caused a friction between the White House and the Afghan government.
Meanwhile, the security situation is believed to have been deteriorated in Afghanistan with US-led forces being killed by Taliban militants on a near-daily basis.
On Thursday, Karzai explained why the war against the Taliban has not made any progress.
"The lack of progress in the war on terror has two factors: one the terror sanctuaries have not been addressed and second because civilians were killed during this war," Karzai told US congressmen.
