US police arrest protesters in Indiana

3 Jan 2012 08:31

Islam Times - Police in the US state of Indiana have arrested two activists affiliated with Occupy movement there for allegedly violating protest rules inside a courthouse.

The arrest took place at the Howard County court House in Kokomo city, when a group identifying themselves as "Occupy Indiana" entered the Courthouse wearing masks and carrying placards.

One of the demonstrators, who had a dollar bill taped across his mouth and bio-hazard stickers covering his face, was arrested for violating court order and resisting law enforcement.

US police have so far arrested over 5,800 anti-corporatism protesters since the beginning of the movement in September last year.

The Occupy Wall Street movement began when a group of demonstrators gathered in New York's financial district on September 17 to protest against the unjust distribution of wealth in the country and the excessive influence of big corporations on US policies.

The protest movement gave voice to outcries and grievances of people against poverty, unemployment, war, and corporatism.
