Gaza suffers acute medicine shortage

27 Dec 2011 10:24

Islam Times - Gaza hospitals suffer from an acute shortage of medicines and hospital supplies.

Health officials say this continued shortage has put many lives at grave risk.

In recent weeks, only small shipments of medicines were brought into the blockade coastal enclave.

United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said Critical patients received supplies enough for only a few weeks.
Chronically ill patients had this to say about their suffering.

Gaza hospitals emergency rooms and intensive care units lack the necessary equipment and medicine to deal with the relatively high number of seriously ill patients.

Children and the elderly are the worst hit among the chronically ill patients.

The health situation is dangerous for chronically ill Gazan patients who have to be on medication for long due to the continuous lack of badly needed medicines.
