Leader of Al-Wefak Society: Bassiouni’s Report requires the resignation of the Bahraini government

30 Nov 2011 09:21

Marine (Islam Times) - main leader of the opposition party in Bahrain on Tuesday called the government to resign after the surfacing evidence of an independent investigation pointing to systematic violations of human rights against pro-democracy protesters this year.

Sheikh Ali Salman told Al Jazeera that the Bahraini government must resign as concluded by the Bassiouni report, for having tortured its citizens.

Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa,King of Bahrain, appointed a new head of Security Service on Tuesday, posing a path into political reform. The opposition protested that this change will not be sufficient.

Sheikh Ali Salman said that the King’s authority is now even more absolute than it was before and wondered about holding the officials accountability for their misbehavior.

Part of the problem in Bahrain is that important measures are taken individually and not as a whole entity. We must keep Bahrain from becoming a "police state".
