Islam Times - Egyptian policemen protest in Cairo

Islam Times - Thousands of Egyptian policemen have staged a protest in the capital Cairo, calling for the resignation of the country's interior minister.

Islam Times: More than 10,000 Egyptian policemen from across the country protested outside the Ministry of Interior in central Cairo, demanding Mansour El-Eissawy to step down.

The policemen voiced their anger at what they call forgotten demands submitted to the ministry nearly ten months ago.

The demands submitted included higher wages, fair promotions, equal pay, and proper healthcare.

The protesters, shouting slogans against the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), vowed to initiate an open-ended strike until their demands are acknowledged.

Egypt has been witnessing similar protests on an almost weekly basis.

Meanwhile, the country's former deputy prime minister Hazem al-Beblawi resigned earlier this month as violence against Egyptians escalated, leading to the death of at least 25 people.

The military authorities have refused to hold presidential election within six months of the revolution as they had promised.

They are also yet to determine a clear timetable for transfer of power to a civilian government.

The council assumed power on the back of Egypt's February revolution, which led to the ouster of the country's former dictator Hosni Mubarak's regime.
