Palestinian protesters in the occupied West Bank confront Israeli troops during a demonstration ahead of the Nakba Day, May 12, 2012.
The clashes erupted in the Issawiya neighborhood of East al-Quds (Jerusalem) during the early hours of Tuesday as Palestinians prepared for the marking of May 15, which is known as the Nakba Day (day of disaster).

Palestinians across the occupied territories annually mark the Nakba Day in protest against the Israeli occupation of their homeland on May 15, 1948.

Demonstrations have been scheduled to be held mainly in the West Bank city of Ramallah and in front of Israel’s nearby Ofer military prison as well as the Qalandia checkpoint.

Another demonstration is also scheduled to be held in the Gaza Strip later on Tuesday.

On May 15, 2011, Israeli forces killed several Nakba Day protesters and injured dozens of others during a similar demonstration in the southern Lebanese town of Maroun al-Ras.
