Fatah officials to visit Marwan Barghouthi in Israeli prison
Sources in the movement’s recruitment and organization commission told Ma'an Sunday that member of Fatah's Central Committee Mahmoud al-Aloul along with other members of the Revolutionary Council planned to pay a visit to Barghouthi in his prison cell.

The visitors will update Barghouthi on the latest developments within Fatah movement.

Barghouti is one of the main Palestinian political leaders of the First and Second Intifadas, and he is sometimes referred to as the "Palestinian Mandela."

On Monday a new committee was launched in South Africa to campaign for Barghouthi's release from Israel prison.

A declaration signed by the committee, which counts prominent anti-apartheid activists Desmond Tutu and his former cellmate Ahmed Kathrada among its numbers, called Barghouthi "the most prominent and renowned Palestinian political prisoner, a symbol of the Palestinian people’s quest for freedom, a uniting figure and an advocate of peace based on international law."
