Israeli-Palestinian conflict on NY billboards

They make their point in clear -- simple terms -- however -- using a series of maps to detail the loss of Palestinian lands to Israel over the past seventy years -- and the millions of resultant refugees. The campaign\'s sponsor says he simply wants to educate people with facts.

And so these billboards have been up for two weeks and generated no small amount of controversy. Enough -- in fact -- that a counteractive billboard went up paid for by "Stand With Us" -- a pro-Israel lobby -- a billboard that strives to push the Israeli side of the argument.

The signs can be seen by commuters -- some in influential positions -- on their way home from work in the city. What impact they\'ll have is anyone\'s guess.

"Stand With Us" -- the Pro-Israel lobby -- also put up a different sign a hundred feet away which attempts to make Palestinians saying "no" the reason for a lack of a settlement.

Important details are omitted -- however -- such as Israel\'s refusal to stop building settlements in occupied territories -- a violation of international law which is the key reason for the last breakdown in talks two years ago. Many commuters say they didn\'t notice anyway.

The pro-Palestinian campaign used fifty billboards across Metro North stations north of New York City. The Stand With Us campaign is responding with 75 ads featuring Israeli contributions -- but Clifford says the bottom line is that Palestinians have less land -- and more refugees -- as time goes by.
