Political backlash in Lebanon
“Some people’s calls to complete the trials in two or three days do not have any legal meaning,” Rifi posted on his Twitter account Wednesday. “We know our duties, and we do not need the advice of anyone who aims to pay some bills to this side or the other.”

“We refuse those calls because they encourage a sample of martial law,” Rifi added, “and we know what happened to the states that used these laws.”

Rifi said that in the rule of law, the legal delays should be respected, and so is the suspect’s right to defend himself, which rules out the possibility of ending the trials in a couple of days.
