Gazans victors of Israeli war: Hamas leader
Haniyeh made the remarks among thousands of Gazans taking part in a rally in Gaza City for their victory after seven weeks of Israeli onslaught against the Palestinian territory.

The sliver’s resistance fighters won because they were “able to strike at the heart" of the Israeli regime, said the Palestinian leader on Wednesday, adding, “We told the enemy: You are not safe on any piece of our land."

Haniyeh hailed Palestinians for 50 days of resistance against Tel Aviv’s bombardment, noting that the latest victory was even "greater" than the previous ones.

He made his first public appearance along with several resistance officials from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad after an Egyptian-brokered truce ended the Israeli war.

The truce, which took effect on Tuesday, stipulates the ease of Israel’s seven-year-old blockade as well as the provision of a guarantee that Palestinian demands will be met.

Israeli warplanes and tanks started pounding the blockaded enclave in early July, inflicting heavy losses on the Palestinian land.

Almost 2,140 Palestinians, mostly civilians, including women, children and the elderly, were killed in 50 days of the Israeli onslaught on Gaza. Around 11,000 others were injured.

Tel Aviv says 69 Israelis were killed in the conflict, but Hamas puts the number at much higher.
