Israeli police deploy heavily in Jerusalem following attacks
Israeli police shot and killed a Palestinian man who rammed an excavator into a bus in East Jerusalem.
 
"A 25-year-old man was run over by the excavator and killed, and the bus driver was moderately to lightly injured," emergency services spokesman Zaki Heller told AFP, saying another four people were lightly hurt in the incident .
 
Later, an unidentified gunman opened fire at an Israeli soldier near the Hebrew University in occupied East Jerusalem.
 
The soldier, a man in his 20s, was seriously wounded and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
 
Undercover units and special forces deployed in Wadi al-Joz, Sheikh Jarrah and al-Suwanna following the shooting, stopping and searching motorbikes and private vehicles.
 
In Wadi al-Joz, Israeli forces raided a funeral for a member of the Dweik family and detained Osama Taqi al-Din al-Bakri, Abd al-Hakim Fawaz al-Bakri, Saif al-Deen Fawaz al-Bakri, and Ahmad Abd al-Hakim al-Bakri.
