Secretary-general of Abbas' office, al-Tayyib Abd al-Rahim, said the reports were "fabricated" and the Palestinian leadership would not accept any alternative to a Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to Israeli army radio, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi reportedly offered 1,600 square kilometers (994 square miles) in Sinai to expand the Gaza Strip, which would become a Palestinian state controlled by the PA.

The area, reported to be five times larger than Gaza, would be demilitarized and the PLO would have to renounce demands for 1967 borders, the report added.

"This news is completely false and the proposal is an old one suggested by former head of the Israeli National Security Council Giora Eiland, who suggested to establish a Palestinian state in Gaza and parts of Sinai with autonomy in the West Bank," al-Rahim said.

Both Egypt and the Palestinian leadership have the same political position, which is the two-state solution based on 1967 borders, he added.

Israeli media reported that several Israeli MKs, including Yesh Atid's Yaakov Peri and hardline Jewish Home MK Ayelet Shaked praised the plan.
