Statistics issued by international organizations show a 40 percent increase in civilian deaths in Afghanistan in the year 2008 from the previous year.

France TV, station 24, quoted this statistic at the same time it was quoting the statistics of the deaths of foreign troops in Afghanistan. The number of deaths reached 2000 and is the largest number of civilian casualties that have died since the American invasion of Afghanistan.
