Hundreds graduate from Gaza new police academy
The old Police Academy was the target of the first Israeli air raids at the turn of 2009 when nearly 150 police cadets where killed on the spot and dozens were injured.
Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh along with high-ranking officials attended the ceremony.

During the graduation ceremony policemen displayed different skills including hand to hand combat.
The new policemen received some combat training by an instructor whose leg was amputated during the bombing of the old police academy on the first day of the war.
Despite his disability the academy instructor says he is determined to train more cadets.

During the war on Gaza Israeli forces killed nearly 1400 Gazans mainly civilians including 770 policemen.
One of the main achievements of the Hamas government was restoring law and order in Gaza.

The Gaza Strip has witnessed a major improvement in security since Hamas's victory in Palestinian legislative elections in 2006.
According to experts crime rates have also dropped dramatically.
