'Qatar plays into hands of US, Israel'

Qatar has been accused of waging a civil war in Syria by supporting anti-government armed groups.

According to reports, Qatar has created an anti-Syrian mercenary force based in Turkey -- with Ankara's full knowledge -- to topple the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Interview with Mohsen Saleh, Professor at Lebanese University, to share his opinion on this issue.

Following is a transcript of the interview:

First of all, how do you observe this intervention, at least aspiration on behalf of Sheikh Hamad Al Thani calling for troops to be deployed almost in sync with the US rhetoric, the very US that backed the coup that put Sheikh Hamad into power in the mid 90's?

Saleh: First of all Qatar is not working for the Arab people or for the Arab stability and development. Arab is working; especially Qatar is working for Americans and Israelis interest and sake. That is how we could understand this kind of call for intervention in Syria.
And they are not keen for the Syrian blood or the Iraqi blood or the Lebanese blood or the Palestinians blood. They are keen for the Israelis and the American blood.

That is why we can see this call for intervention after the meeting with Hillary Clinton in Washington and he came to his master in Qatar and told him what the Americans want to see, an Arab intervention in Syria with the cooperation of course with the Turks and some of the Arabs.

I guess this call is an Israeli call. It is not an Arab call, to let the Arabs kill each other whether in Syria or in Iraq or in other places. These states are pseudo states, are not states, these people have a place and the American gave them the legality or the legitimacy in order to fight by them, to fight the Arabs and the Arab states and the Arab people.

That is how I guess the Arab people specially, because we have seen demonstrations in Tunisia calling for this emir in Qatar to go out from Tunisia and not blemish the revolution by his collaborations with the Americans and with the Zionists. And that is how Qatar is.

Arab people should understand what kind of people they are dealing with. It is unfortunate to find his minister or Prime Minister in the Arab League giving orders to the Secretary General.

I guess the Arabs should cut their relations with Qatar not with Syria because by doing this against Syria I guess they are doing this against themselves and against their substantial issue there, crisis [in] Palestine.

Professor Saleh, reports also suggest that Qatar is trying to start a civil war in Syria by supporting anti-government armed groups there, I like your thoughts on that and also further elaborate on why Qatar would be involved in furthering the unrest in Syria? What would it gain by interfering in Syria's internal affairs?

Saleh: Well of course there are information calling that Qatar is financing and also buying arms, like what it did in Libya. They did the same thing although there is big difference between Gaddafi and Bashar al-Assad. Gaddafi had great relations with the Americans and with the Europeans and with the Israelis. While Bashar al-Assad is doing for his independence, for his people and for the issue of Palestine.
Now Qatar since it is trying to execute, to work on an American agenda in the region that is why they are doing that.

So they brought Burhan Ghalioun, he is professor at the French colleges and they brought him from Paris in order to make this what so-called the National Council to invade and they are financing what so-called the Syrian Free Army.

And also they come to Lebanon and they go to some parts especially now they have problem with Turkey of course. The Turks cannot see Qatar as a pseudo state, American state giving orders to the Turks. That is why the Turks came, went to Iran and now Davutoglu is in Lebanon, in Beirut in order to facilitate the way for probably Arab intervention for the benefit of Turks, Turks interest and for the American interest.

They have intersection here between their interests and Qatar is as a pseudo state, I would repeat that, I would repeat that hundreds of times as a pseudo state. They are trying to appease the Americans that they are [accelerating] the job given to them by the Americans.
That is why they are eager to see an Arab intervention.

They of course suggested these Arab observers or Arab monitors and they went there. If they do not work according to their agenda, they say this committee deviated from its job and from its function. They [get] angry when these monitors say something good about the cooperation between the government and these monitors and now they are working in order to abolish this Arab League decision to send monitors and to send forces in order to say that they are keen about the Syrian blood. They are liars.

Well, one last question before we leave you professor Saleh. How is it that regimes in Yemen and Bahrain which have been experiencing unrest since the start of the Arab Spring last year fall so far below the bar of military intervention with Arab countries, with the US and even with the United Nations despite the ongoing killings and crackdowns there ?

Saleh: As you can see from some of the channels belong to Qatar that these Qataris are not really with the revolutions although they talk, they say, they speech or talk about revolution. They are against the people of Bahrain, they are against the people of Yemen, of course they want to see unrest, they want to see division and strife between the people in Bahrain and in Yemen.

They are really trying to arm the regime in Bahrain more and they go to the United States in order to help and sustain this regime and they were behind the sending of the what so-called the Gulf Shield and in Yemen also, the Yemenis are fed up with this regime of Qatar and also with the regime in Saudi Arabia because they want to see people kill each other and not finding any kind of solution.

Their initiative should have been called for Arab intervention. They took that decision while with Syria they called for something else. They want Arab soldiers to go and kill each other between the Syrians and the Arab forces.

I would satisfy them to tell them that no any Arab soldier would go to Syria and try to kill a Syrian soldier or a Syrian citizen whatever they paid for him, Syrians and Lebanese and Palestinians are not for sale.
