Russia will respond asymmetrically in case of new sanctions
This was announced by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who mentioned "restrictions" to overflights by foreign companies across the Russian territory as an example.

In his interview for the Russian business daily Vedomosti he noted that a change flight routes could lead to bankruptcy of many airlines that are already operating on the brink of survival.

"Our starting point is that we have friendly relations with our European partners, so the sky over Russia is open for all flights - but if they impose sanctions, we will respond," Medvedev explained.

In his opinion, this would not be a desirable development; "because a war of sanctions will not offer peace in Ukraine, but rather endanger the global security system."

"Most politicians know that. However, there is certain inertia in thinking and unfortunately a desire to use force in international relations. I hope this is not what our Western partners are striving for, and that there are no mentally ill persons among policy makers," said Medvedev.

He stressed that sanctions "are always a double-edged sword," and as a rule, do not bring positive results, reported the Russian news agency Itar-Tass.

Speaking about the crisis in Ukraine, the Russian prime minister said he hoped it would be solved, adding that "good will and delicate work" of all parties will be required to maintain peace.

"Unfortunately, the Ukrainian crisis continues. This is a very serious drama. But I hope it will be solved, if the Ukrainian leadership has the good will and Russia's proposals are applied. Delicate work in order to maintain peace should be implemented now. I hope it will work," said Medvedev.

He also noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a peace plan a few days ago and that "it seems" it was accepted by Ukraine, as pro-Russian forces also accepted the plan, although with some reservations.
