Gabriela Shalev, Israel's ambassador to the UN, announced: "Ahmadinejad stated a few days ago that he will be giving a speech full of spite. Leaving the hall when he stands to speak or not attending at all would be considered a positive reaction."

She claimed: "We do not expect countries to give us any promises. We only want to remind them how dangerous this man and the country he controls, Iran, is."

She continued: "We know that America is aware of their danger. They will be attending the speech, but with a very low-level diplomat."
