Who is Turkey’s new PM
Erdogan told members of his party that one of the main factors in choosing Mr. Davutoglu as his successor was his determination to combat “the parallel state” — a reference to the movement of the Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen that he accuses of plotting to topple his government.

Before entering politics, Mr. Davutoglu was a professor of political science and international relations at Marmara University in Istanbul. Later, his interest in territories once ruled by the Ottoman Empire drew accusations from critics that he had an “imperialistic streak,” which he denied.

As foreign minister, he initially won praise for his “zero problems with neighbours” policy, which aimed to strengthen ties with the Middle East, but critics say that a series of oversights and miscalculations have left Turkey with no allies in the region. Voters who make up the A.K.P’s conservative core constituency, however, say that Mr. Davutoglu has been successful in raising the country’s profile internationally.
