Islam Times Correspondent in the West Bank, said that Khalid stated in a press statement that the American administration has said in more than one occasion that the differences with Israel over the settlement activity and other Zionist practices in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem, are as any other dispute taking place within the same family.
He added that the American envoy for the peace process, George Mitchell, who is carrying out a new tour in order to hold proximity talks, is wasting his time in searching for a political settlement with the government of Netanyahu in the proximity negotiations. Yet, the said negotiations are almost ending, without making any significant progress, through a series of Israeli maneuvers, which keep on trying to drag these negotiations into the details that would lead them to the inevitable failure.
He continued, the envoy of the American administration should recognize that the Netanyahu government focusing in the proximity talks on the details, would close the road with a series of security, political, and settlement-oriented barriers in front of the opportunities of moving from the proximity talks to the direct negotiations. In fact, the mentioned details are those that are said to be relevant to the priority of the Palestinian- Zionist economic relations, the culture of peace on the Palestinian side, the water, the endless security demands of Israel, and ignoring to give clear answers regarding the borders of the Palestinian state. The said state is as if forming a cornerstone for the political settlement efforts. Thus, the government of Netanyahu is calling for such negotiations and is finding someone to adopt them in the American Administration as a pretext to take the situation out of the impasse, which is controlled by this government.
