On Saturday, Gazan children that make up almost half of the Palestinian population in the besieged enclave returned to school for the first time since fighting ended late Wednesday.

Over 160 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed and about 1,200 others were injured in over 1,500 Israeli attacks on Gaza that were carried out during the eight-day period of November 14-21.

According to Gaza health officials and local human rights groups, at least 34 children and minors under the age of 18 were among those killed in Israeli attacks, while 10 other children died later of their wounds.

In response to Tel Aviv’s aggression, Palestinian resistance fighters fired retaliatory rockets and missiles into the Israeli-occupied lands.

On Wednesday, Egypt announced that the Israeli regime and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas had reached a ceasefire agreement.

Under the deal, Palestinians and Israelis agreed to end all hostilities against each other. Israel also agreed to open all crossings and facilitate the movement of people and goods in and out of the Gaza Strip. But it did not accept to lift the blockade of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military frequently carries out airstrikes and other attacks on the Gaza Strip, saying the actions are being conducted for defensive purposes. However, in violation of international law, disproportionate force is always used and civilians are often killed or injured.

Gaza has been blockaded by the Israeli regime since 2007, a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
