Muntazir al-Zaidi: My Shoes have been mixed with the Blood of the American Occupiers
Immediately after he was freed he held a media conference in which he said regarding the reason behind his actions: “I will say it simply: the occupiers wanted to dishonor my nation. In the past years one million Iraqis were martyred directly from the occupiers’ weapons.”

He continued: “Their crimes have resulted in 5 million children becoming orphans and one million women becoming widows. Hundreds of thousands of people have become disabled. 5 million people have become homeless inside and outside of the country.”

He stated about throwing his shoes: “An opportunity arose and I used it. I wanted to show my opposition to the lies that George Bush, a war criminal, tries to use to quell the Iraqi nation.”
