Four security officers have been killed in the Yemen in past 24 hours

While targeted assassinations have become rather common in the impoverished nation since 2012 when President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi assume responsibility of the republic, never before have terror elements staged four separate attacks in less than 24 hours. 

Each attack was carried out in the same fashion: drive-by shooting by unidentified armed men mounted on a motorcycle. While al-Qaeda has yet to claim responsibility for the death of three colonels and a military police, officials have already explained that since the attacks all carry the hallmarks of the terror group they are treating the matter as terror-related. 

Three officers were targeted in in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a. Security experts have said that while the attacks could very well be understood as revenge-driven, it could also mean al-Qaeda has chosen to focus its attention on Sana’a and thus could prelude further attacks.

The last victim, a deputy security chief was also gunned down in broad day light early on Tuesday in Harib (central Yemen).

Just as the terror group targeted Yemen Defence Ministry headquarters in Sana’a last December in order to destroy a drone command centre, al-Qaeda could seek to once again strike at the heart of Yemen’s leadership in the hope to derail President Hadi’s news aggressive counter-terror campaign. This of course remain theories.
