In its tussle with Iran, US destabilizes Iraq, says US based Pakistani expert
In an interview, the former professor of National Security and Strategy at the Joint Forces Staff College of the National Defence University of United States noted that while Tehran wants to cooperate in the context of the Iraqi crisis, the U.S. has rejected all of Iran’s offers thus far.

He added that Americans also do not want to see Iran defeat the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIL) in Iraq as it will ultimately strengthen Iran’s position in the region and thus lessen that of the U.S.

The expert emphasized that by being an immediate neighbour, it is impossible for Iraq to avoid good relations with Iran. He noted that in its tussle with Iran, America will further destabilize Iraq.

About any likely comprehensive operation by the U.S. against ISIL, the expert explained, “There is no sign of any large scale operation; only targeted Iraqi-led air strikes.”

Speaking of Saudi Arabia’s role in the region, the analyst noted, “Saudi Arabia spent millions of dollar to further religious extremism in Syria and Iraq as Riyadh wants to control the region’s governments.”

To a question about the future of Iraq, Dr. Ahrari stressed, “If the Iraqi government fail to tackle this crisis properly; the country will witness a proxy war in the near future. _
