Foreign minister calls for intl support for Palestinians

Al-Maliki, speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, said there was new international support for Palestinians in recent months, especially in the wake of the Israeli offensive on Gaza.
 
He called upon UN member states to support President Mahmoud Abbas' bid to set a timeline for the end of the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
 
A "real political will" is required on the part of the international community to maintain the possibility of a two-state solution, the minister said.
 
"We will not allow the occupation, apartheid, and injustice to go on," al-Malki added.
 
"We did not and will not give up."
 
Abbas promised to submit a resolution to call for a timeline for the end of the Israeli occupation in his speech before the Assembly on Friday.
