But the question is how India managed this so called normalcy in this highly volatile region?

Zainab’s 25-year-old son has not returned home from work since August 7. An electrician by profession, he has been arrested without charges. Zainab says she hasn’t slept all these nights, as she awaits the return of her younger and beloved child.

So far, officials have not revealed the number of detentions since August 5. But a magistrate said on the condition of anonymity that there are thousands under detention. Officials say not just civilians but pro- and anti- Indian politicians have also been detained.

Besides, the government has banned all sorts of protest gatherings in the region, imposed tough restrictions in sensitive areas, and scuttled all the means of communication, including phone services.

Analysts accuse India of faking normalcy in Kashmir and say India has imposed enforced silence in Kashmir.

Indian-administered Kashmir, which is the flash point of possible war between India and Pakistan, came to the limelight after India dissolved its semi-autonomous status earlier this month.

Despite global criticism over what people call India’s ‘foul play’ in Kashmir, so far none of the international players seem to be taking interest in a region where millions of lives are at stake.
