Islam Times - The conference was an important step toward defeating takfirism

Islam Times - Sheikh Abdullah Dakkak, the representative of his eminence, Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassem spoke to Islam Times correspondent in Qom – Iran – on the sideline ofThe World Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the Islamic Scholars’ view.

Sheikh Dakkak stressed on the importance of such efforts toward reinforcing sentiments of collaboration and respect throughout the Islamic community, at such times when forces have attempted to sow discord and enmity.

He emphasized that the coming together in Qom of Sunni and Shia clerics, scholars and dignitaries was an important step toward defeating takfirism.

He told Islam Times, “There is no doubt the conference was a success! We have made important breakthrough in terms of identifying what avenues to pursue to defeat terror and radicalism.

Touching on Bahrain, the Sheikh emphasized that Britain’s insistence to back Al Khalifa regime in view of such widespread popular protest is counter-productive to regional stability and ultimately reinforce negative feelings toward western meddling.

Sheikh Dakkak stressed that he wholeheartedly support Al Wefaq’s efforts in its efforts to bring about political and institutional reforms, in keeping with popular will.
