Mubarak trial resumes in Cairo
Mubarak, former interior minister Habib el-Adli and six of the latter's assistants are charged with giving orders to kill protesters in Liberation Square during the January 25 Revolution. Mubarak's two sons - Gamal and Alaa were also to be tried in another corruption case at the Police Academy court in the outskirts of Cairo

Outside the court there were pro Mubarak supporters kept aside by barriers, who had come to express their views at the historic event, some felt it was good that the trial wasn't being broadcast anymore and wanted just to see the final decision.

On the opposite side of the entrance to the Mubarak sympathizers, victims' relatives came to the trial, and they chanted slogans demanding justice and the punishment of the killers.

The previous session's prosecution lawyers had called for the death penalty of the ex-president. If convicted, Mubarak could face the death penalty for ordering of the killing of protesters. Although this is what the prosecution is asking for, Lawyers familiar with the case said it is an unlikely outcome but for some families of the martyrs, they are looking for a suitable retribution.

The trial got off to a late start, scheduled for 9am, Mubarak arrived after 13.00 flown in by helicopter and wheeled in by stretcher. It comes at a pivotal time in Egypt where there are heightened tensions in the build up to the anniversary of the start of the revolution.

As the trial continues, outside the court remains relatively calm, although there is a calling for the execution of Mubarak the outcome remains to be seen.
