Jordan's ruler warns Israel, West on consequences of Iran war

4 Mar 2012 10:36

Islam Times - Jordan’s King Abdullah II has cautioned the Israeli regime and the West against the potential ramifications of any military aggression against Iran.

“Any military action against Iran would aggravate instability in the Middle East, and have greatly negative repercussions for the US, Europe, and Israel. The region does not need yet another crisis at this stage," said the Jordanian king in a Saturday interview with Turkish Policy Quarterly (TPQ) magazine.

The remarks come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with US President Barack Obama in Washington on March 5, supposedly to discuss Iran’s nuclear energy program and ways to disrupt it.

Israeli officials have recently ramped up their war rhetoric against Iran, threatening the Islamic Republic with military strikes in case the US-engineered sanctions against the country fail to force Tehran into abandoning its nuclear energy program.

Iran has persistently rejected such allegations, vowing a crushing response to any attempted military strike against the country. Senior Iranian authorities have also warned that the nation’s reaction to any such measures may potentially extend far beyond the immediate Middle East region.
