"Any military action against Iran will have a disastrous impact on the entire region, which cannot afford to go through more wars," Khasawneh told a group of visiting Turkish lawmakers.

"Any solution to the Iranian issue should be diplomatic. War on Iran will drag the region backwards... for decades," Khasawneh added.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program, using this pretext to impose sanctions against Iran and threaten the country with military attack.

Israeli officials have recently ramped up their war rhetoric, threatening Iran with military strikes in case the US-engineered sanctions against the country fail to force Tehran into abandoning its nuclear energy program.

During his speech at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference in Washington on Sunday, US President Barack Obama claimed that Washington will “use all elements of American power to pressure Iran and prevent it from acquiring a nuclear weapon.”

“The United States and Israel both assess that Iran does not yet have a nuclear weapon,” he said, however.

Iran has denied the allegations and promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the region.
