Imam Khomeini’s only letter without ‘In the Name of Allah’

Islam Times , 3 Nov 2009 03:57

Once Imam Khomeini learned that a group of American representatives sent by the president of the United States planned to come to Iran, he issued a statement to the parliament. This is the only statement issued by Imam Khomeini that did not start with the words ‘in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful,’ just like the ninth chapter of the Quran.

After the American embassy was taken over by Muslim students following in Imam Khomeini’s footsteps, Jimmy Carter, the president of the United States at the time, sent Ramzi Clark and William Miller to meet with Imam Khomeini. When these two reached Turkey and prepared themselves to enter Iran the mentioned statement was issued and they returned to America. Imam Khomeini’s statement was then immediately published throughout the world. Imam Khomeini’s son, Sayyid Ahmad Khomeini said in this regard: “Imam issued the statement once he became aware. He did not accept to meet the American group in the statement. He told all of the members of the parliament, the temporary government, and all other officials that nobody has the right to meet with these American officials. The interesting thing about this statement is that it is the only statement that did not start with the words ‘in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful,’ just like the ninth chapter of the Quran.
