Islam Times - Iraqi people have attended a conference to commemorate the 32nd martyrdom anniversary of Iraqi Shia cleric Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr.
He was the father-in-law of Muqtada al-Sadr and Imam Musa al-Sadr’s cousin.
In 1980, Mohammad Baqir al-Sadr was imprisoned and executed by the regime of Saddam Hussein after writing in support of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
The Iraqi officials said the blood of al-Sadr and other Iraqi people, who lost their lives for freedom, didn't go in vain. They also said all those behind their killing were bought to justice.
Al-Sadr’s immense popularity did not fade years after his murder and during the execution of Saddam Hussein, pro-Sadr slogans were chanted by some of the Shia guards.
